Oregon and Magic Mushrooms
In Oregon, magic mushrooms are on their way to legalization. In 2021, a ballot measure was approved by voters for a regulatory and licensing framework.
This will allow patients to take psilocybin under supervision in 2023. This essentially allowed Oregon to become the first state to legalize magic mushrooms.
Why Are Magic Mushrooms Illegal?
Why are magic mushrooms illegal? The law is slowly changing, but the reason is mostly political. The Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act of 1970 made psilocybin illegal.
The act was established to control and prevent the recreational use of drugs. Hence, psilocybin was included under Schedule I.
Where Are Magic Mushrooms Legal Outside the US?
Magic mushrooms are legal in many places. Brazil legalized magic mushrooms but not psilocybin. They’re also legal in the Bahamas, Jamaica, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain.
