A lithium iron phosphate battery offers a number of advantages over lead-acid and other lithium batteries, including improved discharge and charge efficiency, a longer life span, and the ability to deep cycle the battery while maintaining its power. While LiFePO4 batteries are often more expensive, over time they will be more cost effective. Due to their low maintenance requirement and super long life, they are a worthwhile investment and a smart long-term solution.
The lithium battery lasts a long time
JB lithium batteries provide up to 10 times longer life than lead-acid batteries, and they still provide 80% of their rated capacity after 2,000 cycles. Most lithium-ion batteries last five years or more than lead-acid batteries, which usually last only two years on average. Additionally, lead-acid batteries need to be maintained, which involves replacing the battery with water in order to prevent structural damage. If the batteries are not maintained properly, their life span is further shortened. There is no need for active maintenance with lithium batteries, so if you buy them once, you know they will last a long time.
The lithium battery is quick and efficient
Lithium is capable of charging and discharging at a rapid rate, allowing it to be used in a variety of different applications, minimizing downtime and providing maximum power for a short period of time. Because lead-acid batteries have to be charged in stages for a longer period of time, as well as performing inefficiently during periods of high discharge, they are less versatile than their lithium counterparts. The efficiency of lithium batteries, especially in high-stress situations, is unparalleled. Unlike lead-acid batteries, lithium batteries display minimal effect from temperature fluctuations and energy depletion. As a result, lithium is a logical choice for applications that will exhaust the batteries or that will run in extreme conditions.
The lightweight champion is lithium
The JB batteries provide more power than lead-acid batteries and typically weigh half as much, reducing concerns about battery weight. As compared to other battery chemistries, lithium batteries have the same or more energy at a fraction of their weight and size. This results in greater flexibility and ease of installation.
What is a Battery Pack?
Typically, a battery pack is a device that stores electrical energy, such as when powering an electric vehicle (EV) or an energy storage system (ESS). The energy is stored in cells that are connected to one another in a battery pack.
A battery pack must have a minimum voltage level to provide sufficient power, which can’t be achieved by a single cell. Several cells are therefore connected in series to boost voltage. Some designs use small-capacity cells. The battery energy is boosted when cells are connected in parallel. Parallel cells provide the same amount of power as if they were one single cell.
It is common to find battery packs made up of multiple, smaller sections called battery modules (or sub packs). These modules typically include a smaller number of cells connected in series and parallel, and are usually at lower voltages, making handling easy. EV batteries are typically constructed of 4 to 40 modules connected in series to one another. Modules facilitate service when only a few cells are defective and can be replaced without replacing the entire battery.
